Chiropractic
What is Chiropractic?Chiropractic is a natural, gentle, drug-free treatment that recognises the body's self healing abilities. Chiropractic specialists diagnose and treat conditions which are due to mechanical dysfunction of the joints, particularly the spine and their effects on the nervous system. What do Chiropractors do?Chiropractors use their hands to adjust the joints of the spine or extremity where there are signs of restricted movement or misalignments. Chiropractors specialise in the detection, correction and prevention of muscle and joint problems, relieving pain and improving health. The central nervous system is the control system of the body which coordinates and controls every muscle, organ, tissue, gland and cell. One of the main interests of the chiropractor is a well functioning nervous system. The spinal cord and the nerve roots that exist between and around each spinal bone are easily compromised by stress or trauma. Improper motion of spinal and extremity bones can cause pains, aches plus wear and tear which can lead to osteo-arthritis and nerve irritation. This is why Chiropractors often work with the spine, to remove interference (subluxation) that may be causing pain or impairing normal health which again can compromise the body's ability to heal and correct itself and express it's optimum potential.Visiting a ChiropractorOn a patient's first visit to the Wolff Clinic, the chiropractor will take a thorough case history and carry out a full neurological, orthopaedic and chiropractic examination. X-rays may also be taken to check for any abnormalities or conditions which will show if another form of treatment would be more appropriate. Once these examinations are complete, the chiropractor carries out a detailed analysis of how the individual bones, joints and muscles move, to identify the specific problem. Treatment consists of gently unlocking stiff joints, correcting spinal subluxations and joint misalignments, by using quick adjustments with just the right amount of pressure to restore function and mobility to joints.
