Knee Pain
How is the knee designed and what is its function?
Although the knee joint may look like a simple joint, it is one of the most complex. Moreover, the knee is more likely to be injured than any other joint in the body. We tend to ignore our knees until something happens to them that causes pain. As the saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
To function well, a person needs to have strong and flexible muscles. In addition, the meniscal cartilage, articular cartilage and ligaments must be smooth and strong. Problems occur when any of these parts of the knee joint are damaged or irritated.
If we take good care of our knees now, before there is a problem, we can really help ourselves. In addition, if some problems with the knees develop, an examination from the chiropractors at the Wolff Clinic can be extremely beneficial.
Causes of knee pain:
Knee pain can be a result of injury to the knee joint (i.e. from a fall etc.) Injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the knee joint. Injury can also affect the ligaments, cartilage, menisci (plural for meniscus), and bones within the joint. The complexity of the design of the knee joint and the fact that it is an active weight-bearing joint are factors in making the knee one of the most commonly injured joints.
At the Wolff Clinic we frequently treat knee conditions such as:
Treatment:
At the Wolff Clinic, we have the tools to easily diagnose and treat injuries to the knee, incorporating both neurological and mechanical treatments.
Mechanoreceptors (sensors for movement) are embedded in the tissue surrounding joints. When these tissues get stretched by a misallignment of a joint (i.e. from a fall etc.) this activates an inhibition or weakening of the adjacent muscle. Other muscles around the joint will have to compensate, often causing thigh, knee or calf aches and pains. Discovery of these weak muscles and correction of the misalligned joint to restore normal strength is a speciality of the Wolff Clinic practitioners.
Treatments are gentle, safe, natural, non invasive and highly effective. Also, the treatments are designed to correct the root cause of your problem and not simply cover up the symptoms you experience.
