Shoulder Problems
How is the shoulder designed and what is its function?
There are three joints in the shoulder. The main joint is a ball and socket joint and it is the most mobile in the body. The other two joints in the shoulder complex are the sternoclavicular joint and the acromioclavicular joint.
The muscles of the shoulder complex provide stability and movement. During shoulder movements such as lifting, certain muscle groups help to move the shoulder, while other muscle groups help to stabilize the shoulder complex. Much of the stability in the shoulder complex is provided by this muscular coordination.
Cause:
Poor posture, muscle weakness or ligament injury can lead to abnormal biomechanics of the shoulder. These can result in abnormal forces in the shoulder, and over time can cause injury to the soft tissue. Other causes of shoulder problems can be sports injuries(click here)and repetitive strain injuries.
At the Wolff Clinic we frequently treat Shoulder conditions such as:
- Joint misalignment
- Tendinitis
- Bursitis
- Repetitive Strain Injury
- Aches and pains from Arthritis
- Nerve Irritation from the neck
- Sports Injuries(click here)
- Rib pain
- Work related injuries
Treatment:
At the Wolff Clinic, we can easily diagnose and treat injuries to the shoulder area, incorporating both neurological and mechanical treatments.
Mechanoreceptors (sensors for movement) are embedded in the tissue surrounding joints. When these tissues get stretched by a misallignment of a joint (i.e. from a fall etc.) this activates an inhibition or weakening of the adjacent muscle. Other muscles around the joint will have to compensate, often causing neck / shoulder and upper arm aches and pain. Discovery of these weak muscles and correction of the misalligned joint to restore normal strength is a speciality of the Wolff Clinic practitioners.
Treatments are gentle, safe, natural, non invasive and highly effective. The treatments are also designed to correct the root cause of your problem and not simply cover up the symptoms you experience.
